Disaster Recovery Plan

The Disaster Recovery Plan (DRP) is the technology recovery segment of the business continuity plan, and in larger organizations is typically a separate component.

Focused exclusively on IT operations, this is the plan to recover application processing and its data, including the infrastructure, communications, hardware, software, networks, etc. - and prioritizes the recovery of each.

In most instances, the DRP we develop for our clients contains a hierarchy of importance concerning the recovery of technology services for mission critical operations. Most of the DRPs that we develop for our clients provide a planned IT recovery progression, with timelines - from most critical to less critical - such as:

Communications (Internet, voice and data)
Hardware
Operating systems
Computer network
Individual applications, e.g., payroll, e-mail, finance, etc.
Help desk support
Applications development

It is typical for IT dependencies, such as applications, networks, software, vendors, personnel, etc. to frequently change. As such, it is important that the DRP be updated on a regular basis.
